Levels of meditation is a term spreading across the internet But most people don't know that it was designed by Master Hughes the most highly commendated Buddhist Roshi in Texas and the work is directly attributable to Master Hughes. Master Hughes holds copy right to the term and no one actually has the work except for those studying under master Hughes . We are aware now that several individuals are trying to sell levels of meditation training , the work is fake. Beware Master Hughes is the leading authority on Meditation in the Use and designed the levels of meditation training. A unique teacher a student once asked him the age old question of who are you? Master Hughes replied I am the sum of everything and the sum of nothing, ''leaving the student baffled. Believe me the man is advanced there's no mistaking the real thing. The Teacher Master Hughes After many years of studying Buddhism and living meditation as a "Way of Life." Master Hughes, Named the temple "Dano Shen Ryu Zen Center. Master Hughes is an engaged Buddhist with a history of humanitarian work for which he is well known He holds numerous commendations including Texas House of representatives, The governor of Texas and the office of victims of crime U.S. Department of justice. A unique teacher a student once asked him the age old question of who are you? Master Hughes replied I am the sum of everything and the sum of nothing, ''leaving the student baffled. DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE LEVELS OF MEDITATION? The Levels of Meditation are created by: Master Hughes and copyrighted. National Meditation Center Most people think that sitting with their hands crossed is meditating in a meditation center. But if it were so simple the world would be a calm and harmonious place. For a student to advance in meditation, he must understand that there are levels of meditation and only through the journey and the price of learning may you advance. While it may be true that you can learn meditation without a teacher, it is obvious that a teacher enhances your journey and experiences, unfortunately there are few legitimate teachers. Levels of Meditation Meditation is not the simple act of sitting quietly with our legs crossed that we all see on TV or that maybe the local yoga expert said it is. Because of our misconceptions many people feel that they fail at meditation. They have not failed it is simply that there concept of what meditation is or is not was based quiet often on some misguided concept created by those around you. Some even believe that they studied meditation because they studied yoga or because they studied Buddhism. That is entirely incorrect, what you were doing was studying Buddhism and doing a simple aspect of meditation. You see that is why some do sitting meditation, and some do other meditation because their purpose was not for the student to study meditation, it was to study Buddhism, scientism or yoga. Some of the levels of Meditation are envisionment, internal consciousness, reflection, calm environment, and quite mind. These are just a few of the lower levels for practitioners. Quite often a student only uses one or two levels. Therefore, do not be critical, study to just study and have an open mind. Actually teachers were many years advanced before they were into advanced meditation because it takes many years to study the meditations. Students were often given one form or level that the Master instructor approved of and then through the years especially here in America where few spend 30 years to develop credentials, this knowledge was lost to but a few Master Instructors. Begin meditation with an envisionment. Walking Meditation - My favorite, walking through the woods or zoo. Internal Consciousness - This is used to create awareness of self. Don't get this confused with ego, self has nothing to do with ego but more with reality awareness, from the simple heart beat, to knowing who you are. Many people go through life unhappy, meditation on this level can help bring about the awareness that will allow the spirit to awaken to resolve problems, and for those of you that don't have problems, this will still help you bring about awakening. Reflective Meditation - deals with the ability to learn and change. Wisdom of this type, derived only through meditation, begins during this period. The other two previous meditations are initial stages for this time of reflection. This whole period is an immenseness period of growth that should be supported by surrounding oneself with a life style that is supportive of your meditation. Which includes humility and you should reflect on freeing yourself from anger, greed, & jealousy. Working Meditation - Yes, you can actually do this but it can take practice. Understanding Your Training "To be free, you must first put down the rock that you carry, to walk with me up the path of enlightenment." quote Master Hughes. Dano Shen Meditation training requires training in three areas. Each area has many subjects. 1. Mind - One must increase one intellectual knowledge on the history of meditation and the subjects of Buddhism , Shintoism and Taoism to be a knowledgeable person and rebuke ignorance. 2. Body - One should endeavor in the things that improve the harmony of body and health. Endeavor in the arts that bring the understanding of self and disciplines such as, chi kung, karate, jujitsu, archery, when employed for the right reason. Styles of Meditation The First Three Levels of Meditation: Envisonment: Use of the mind. The most important basic act. Never envision negative things. It is the simple act of gaining control over your mind and directing that power. It should bring strength, control, discipline and awareness.
3. Spirit - One must seek the intuitive knowledge and wisdom that can only be gained through meditation and no other intellectual endeavor. One must understand there is a major difference between intellect and wisdom. Right Mind, Right Body, & Right Spirit Mind Training - Study of History approved subjects. Body Training - The age old arts used traditionally for this are jujitsu, karate, aikido, but other arts are permissible the idea is to hone, prepare and condition the body. Even the simple discipline of sitting meditation takes much effort. These arts help prepare the proper attitude. Spirit Training - The hardest and most elusive part for the practitioner and the teacher. Quite often if they fail, it is because of the attitude of wanting too much too soon or not seeing the need for the other training but that is why there are actually so few recognized teachers. Like any thing else in life, it takes work. For this subject you need the koans, reading of the scriptures, advanced study of the levels of meditation and your teacher. You can always email the center for guidance.
